About the tutorial

This course is intended for first time user of Prusa Slicer and/or 3d printing as subject. Self-taught users can also profit from the structure to consolidate essential concepts. There is a lot explaining while I gave some time for you to click around the software with me, thus gaining a first experience with its user interface and the tools that will help us to achieve a good 3D Print. We conclude the course by generating your first 3d printable file, known as GCode.

Why take this tutorial

PrusaSlicer is the 3D Printing software of Prusa, a great 3D Printer company and one of the Printers that we recommend. So its ideal if you are dealing with a Prusa Printer to use PrusaSlicer. So this course will help you start to understand 3D Printing Software, a particular way of production because we take a digital STL and create a guideline for a 3D Printer to make it physical. So this first look, of the user interface, the tools in hand and the configuration of 3D Slicing will be the start of the deep world of printing, trying and learning that is 3D Print.


 

1. Download and Install

Download PrusaSlicer for Mac or Windows.


2. Set up Printer

2.1. Configuration Assistant

  1. Find the Configuration Wizard in Configuration. 

  2. Remove User Profiles.

  3. Add your 3D Printer:

    • Select 0.4 Nozzle.

    • Verify the 3D Printer Brand in the LCD Panel.

  4. Select Filament: PLA 

  5. Check all the Automatic Updates.

  6. You can change the printer on the right side.


3. User Interface

3.1. What is Where

  1. You can change the Options View between:

    • Simple

    • Advance

    • Expert

3.2. Navigation Tools

  1. To Pan: Right Click.

  2. To Orbit: Left Click.

  3. To Zoom: Scrolling Ball

3.3. Setting Tabs

  1. You can find the Settings Tabs in the upper part of the screen.

    • Plater

    • Print Settings

    • Filament Settings

    • Printer Settings

3.4. Viewing Modes

  1. There are two sets of View of the model.

  • To modify the Solids: 3D Editor

  • To see the Slice Result: Preview Window

3.5. Object Tools

  1. In the left side you can find the Tools:

  • Move

  • Scale

  • Rotate

  • To put one face on the Printer falt: Lay Flat

  • To Slice one solid: Cut

  • To Arrange Multiple Objects: Arrange

3.6. Object Commands

  1. You can find the settings when you select the object in the right side.

  2. You can set:

    • Position

    • Rotation

    • Scale

    • Size


4. First Cube

4.1. Add Shape and Modify

  1. To add Shape: Right Click > Shape

  2. To Scale: Scale Icon

4.2. Printer Settings

  1. Change Print Settings: 0.3 DRAFT

  2. Select Filament: PLA

  3. Choose Printer.

  4. Supports: None

  5. Infill: 20%

4.3. Slice

  1. You can find the Layer Selector in a right bar where you can view layer by layer the process.

  2. You can find the Printer Route in the Lower Bar where you can see all the way of the printer.

4.4. Export

  1. Insert your SD Card to your computer.

  2. Export G-code.

  3. Organize Filename.

    • Last Name _ Model Name _ Scale _ Machine _ Print Time

  4. Eject and Print.
